
New York State Talking Book and Braille
Library
Founded 1896
The New York State Talking Book and Braille Library (TBBL) provides library service to New York State residents who have a qualifying print disability and live in the 55 upstate counties. The TBBL collection includes audio and Braille books and special playback equipment, as well as access to magazines, newspapers, and downloadable books. The service is affiliated with the National Library Service (part of the Library of Congress) and is completely free to eligible individuals. TBBL serves a large number of public and private schools and students, at home or within their educational institution.
Talking and Braille Books for all ages:
- A free library service for residents of New York who can’t use standard print due to a qualifying physical, visual or reading disability
- Service to individuals, schools, colleges, and other institutions
- Nearly 14,000 individual patrons already registered and receiving service
- Over 68,000 titles, fiction and non-fiction, in many different formats
- Loan of special playback equipment at no charge
- Over 70 magazines available in special format
- Free book catalogs in large print, braille, or recorded format
- Toll-free line for information, referrals, requests
