School of Orchestral Studies
Late Application Procedure

Late Applicant Procedures

Students may still apply to the New York State Summer School of the Arts, School of Orchestral Studies even though the regional auditions have been completed. There may be openings in some sections and additional instrumentalists will be needed to fill all open positions. If you are interested in being considered for membership in the 2012 summer program, submit a completed SOS application form and a CD or cassette-taped audition of a solo selection that best demonstrates your capabilities. The CD or tape should be no more than ten minutes in length.  We also require a numerical estimate of your sight reading ability.  Your teacher should send a copy of your NYSSMA (or County) Solo Evaluation Sheet OR a written numerical estimate of your sight-reading ability along with the recording. Students with a current NYSSMA Level VI Solo Evaluation Sheet indicating a high level of performance may submit a copy of it for admission purposes in lieu of an audition CD.

CD's or tapes should be clearly marked with your name, instrument and should list your musical selections by title. The tape/CD and written materials should be submitted to our office as soon as possible so that an appropriate adjudicator may audition it. The recording, written sight-reading evaluation and completed SOS Application Form should be mailed to:
