Now Hiring: NYSSSA Residential Life

The New York State Summer School of the Arts is now hiring Residential Life Staff for the 2020 Season.

We are seeking educators who have a passion for mentorship and are committed to fostering an environment suited for learning and artistic growth. As a member of the Summer School of the Arts staff, you will supervise and act as a source of encouragement and guidance for our students. During the day, their instructors give them the training and experience needed to help them realize their talents and make decisions regarding their future in the arts. Your major job is to provide guidance necessary to help students develop high standards of conduct, social skills, and the ability to live harmoniously with each other. The success of the program relies on the effective interaction of these two areas. Applicants must have a valid drivers license and be at least 21 years old. Applicants with teaching experience are preferred. 

Available positions:

Assistant Director of Administration: $3,000 (Hiring for Dance)

  • Supervise all Res Life Staff
  • Act as Liasion between Albany office, artistic staff, and students
  • Manage residential life budget and track expenses

Counselors: $2,000 (Hiring for Visual Arts, Dance, and Orchestral Studies)

  • Plan, organize, and supervise recreational activites
  • Provide supervision of students in dormitories, on campus, and during scheduled group activities
  • Hold information meetings with students
  • Enforce rules and regulations
  • Assist faculty and teaching assistants as needed
  • Aid students during open studio hours/practice sessions

The New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) is a State-sponsored program, administered by the New York State Education Department. Founded in 1970, the program assists young artists in planning professional careers in the visual and performing arts. Four weeks of intensive work and interaction with internationally acclaimed artists and performing arts companies, such as the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra, give students a unique opportunity to experience the rigors of their chosen arts field. Every summer, approximately 400 NYSSSA students earn the unique opportunity to experience daily life with professional artists and receive intensive instruction and mentoring from some of the world's greatest artists and artistic companies. They spend the summer studying with some of the world’s leading artists in the creative and performing arts.
