About the School of Dance

There are no calendar events right now.

2022 program information is not yet available.

The NYSSSA School of Dance will be taking place fully remote on Zoom. Programming will begin on Saturday July 17 and end Saturday August 14.

  • The program will open and close with weekend mini-festivals of classes, workshops, and performances.
  • You will be matched with a faculty member and also possibly an alumni mentor for individualized programming such as coaching, working on a project, and/or college/career planning and preparation.
  • There will be weekly programming for the whole group that may include technique class, repertory workshops, and/or dance history seminars.

Through a ground-breaking collaboration between the New York State Education Department and the Dance Legacy, you will be introduced to the works of American dance masters during your four weeks of intensive study. You'll research the artists, explore the exhibits of the National Museum of Dance, learn how to retrieve and capture archival materials, and discover links between dance and other disciplines. Faculty members will assist you in designing dance projects that you'll pursue throughout the school year, culminating in videos and oral accounts of the impact of their activities on yourself, your family, friends, school and community.

Student Profiles

At NYSSSA, you form unbreakable bonds with the other students and you get to know and learn from some of the most amazing and influential people in the dance world.

I discovered my true passion for modern dance at NYSSSA and it inspired me to continue to study dance at the collegiate level.
