AUDITION PROCESS

Online registration will open December 6, 2019. Walk-in applicants may arrive at 9:30 am. Please have your photo prepared with your application. Each student should plan on arriving at the scheduled registration time to check in, get your audition number, and begin warming up.  If you have not provided the required identifying photograph with your application, please mail or email (nysssa@.nysed.gov) within two weeks of your audition date.  Participants are to wear normal dance clothing (no costumes) and be prepared to audition with bare feet.  The formal class will begin approximately one-half hour after the scheduled registration time.  Each student will participate in the formal class and will be expected to perform a short prepared solo not to exceed two minutes.  Applicants are expected to provide music for their solo.  Students should be prepared with their music in two formats (ie. Ipod or CD).  A CD player will be provided. Please note that burned CD’s should be in final format to avoid playback issues, and tested at home (not on a computer).  Ratings by the artistic faculty will form the basis for selecting members and alternates to attend the School of Dance.  Students will be notified of their audition results in early March. Please do not contact the NYSSSA Office for results.

Applicants who are auditioning for both the NYSSSA School of Ballet and the NYSSSA School of Dance at either the Capital District or the Brockport locations should plan to participate in the Dance audition first and be assigned to the second Ballet audition group, which will not begin until after the Dance audition has been completed.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the NYSSSA office at (518) 474-8773 or by email to nysssa@.nysed.gov
