AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

If you did not include an identifying photograph (no larger than 4” x 6”) with your application, please bring one to the audition. Snap shots are just as acceptable as professional photographs since they are used for identification purposes only.

You are required to prepare two memorized monologues of two minutes each, one classical and one contemporary.  You are encouraged to make your selections from the list of recommended scenes.  Click here for a list of suggested scenes.  If you choose a selection not on the list, it must be from a well-known, published play (not musical) and should reflect contrasting moods or characters.  The monologues need no introduction, but please announce the play, author and part you are performing.  Students are urged to read the entire play from which their excerpt is taken in order to fully understand and interpret their selection.  The adjudicators are interested in how students use themselves honestly, rather than how they "put on characters".  You will be rated on voice/diction, movement, relaxation/concentration, interpretation and honesty.  Wear clothes and shoes that do not impede your movement.  Please do not expect to be cued, wear costumes or stage make-up, or invite visitors to view the audition.  You may use one or two simple props, if you wish.  Audition only if you are committed, if selected, to work up to 12 hours daily at the summer school.

All students will be notified by mail of the results of the regional auditions by the end of March.
